The state of health, safety and physical and mental well-being of workers are directly
related to the quality of services provided. The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of work
fatigue, stress and Work-Related Musculoskeletal disorders (WRMD) associated with the postures
adopted by Orthoptists in a hospital service. In methodological terms, a questionnaire was used that
favors the reporting of WRMD symptoms, exposure to stress and work fatigue. The instrument was
applied to eight techniques of the service in question. To evaluate the postures adopted by the
professionals during the exams, the RULA method was used. The results reveal that the sample is
exposed to a high level of WRMD, with the main complaints occurring in the neck, shoulder and
lumbar area. The levels of fatigue and work stress obtained are moderate. In view of the results,
control measures were proposed to reduce the level of exposure.
